Extremely Rare Old Mortar – Ivory Coast (H 46 cm, Ø 33 cm)

This extraordinary antique mortar is a rare find from a remote village in Ivory Coast, carefully hand-carved from a single block of indigenous hardwood. Standing 46 cm tall with a diameter of 33 cm, its impressive size and sculptural presence reflect both its utilitarian and cultural importance.

Traditionally used for grinding plants, herbs, and écorces (tree barks) for medicinal and culinary purposes, this piece carries the patina of decades of daily life. Its weathered surface, natural cracks, and rich dark tones tell the story of hands that worked it for healing, nourishment, and ritual preparation.

Now lovingly preserved, this large mortar serves as a powerful statement piece for contemporary interiors, blending organic beauty with West African heritage. A unique collectible for those who value authenticity and soulful craftsmanship.
